International Registration of Trade Marks

Accession to the Madrid Protocol: Jamaica

On December 27, 2021, the Government of Jamaica deposited with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) its instrument of accession to the Madrid Protocol for the International Registration of Marks.

The Madrid Protocol will enter into force, in respect of Jamaica, on March 27, 2022.

Following the accession of the United Arab Emirates earlier in September 2021, this brings the number of contracting parties to this international agreement to 110.

As a result of the unified registration system, from 27 March 2022, trademark owners will be able to apply for protection of their marks through the Madrid system if they market their goods and services in Jamaica.

The Madrid System is a key element of global trademark protection and offers trademark owners around the world a convenient and cost-effective solution for international trademark protection.
